Dr Gerry
McGuire established Resolution
Analytical Consultancy in 2005, specialising in
the provision of analytical expertise for
pre-clinical and clinical regulatory drug
development covering Bioanalysis, Central Labs
and Formulations in addition to offering Project
Management Services to the Pharmaceutical and
Biotechnology industries. Prior to this,
he was Head of the Department of Bioanalytical
Chemistry at Inveresk, a position he
occupied for over 15 years. His department
was responsible for providing GLP analytical
support for pre-clinical and clinical programmes
requiring analysis of drugs, metabolites and
biomarkers in biological fluids (blood, plasma,
serum, urine) using analytical techniques such
as LC-MS/MS, LC-MS, HPLC, GC-MS, GC and
immunoassay.
Gerry originally
graduated from the University of Glasgow with
First Class Honours in Biochemistry and was
awarded a Post-graduate Research Scholarship
from the University. He embarked on a PhD
studying the interaction of anticonvulsant drugs
with the haem biosynthetic pathway in the
University’s Department of Medicine, combining
his interests in analytical sciences and
biochemistry with involvement in clinical
studies, and in vivo and in vitro drug
metabolism.
Gerry
has some additional years experience in
Clinical Chemistry and ADME studies.
On completion of his
PhD, he spent
2 years as a Clinical Biochemist in
Glasgow’s Western Infirmary and Gartnavel General
Hospital, with additional responsibilities
for supporting a Therapeutic Drug
Monitoring service and conducting research into
biomarkers for prognosis in hepatic
disease. He joined Inveresk Research
International (IRI) in 1987 and worked in
Metabolism for 2 years before being given
responsibility for setting up and developing
Inveresk’s Bioanalytical services as detailed
above.
